What VLT actually means
Tint percentage refers to Visible Light Transmission (VLT) — the amount of visible light the film lets through. A 5% film (limo tint) lets 5% of light through; a 70% film is nearly invisible but still blocks UV and heat.
Picking the right percentage
5% (Limo) — Maximum privacy. Legal only on rear windows in California. Looks aggressive on SUVs and trucks.
20% — The most popular daily-driver shade. Strong privacy, comfortable night visibility, looks balanced on most vehicles.
35% — Subtle, factory-look shade. Excellent night visibility. Common choice for sedans and luxury vehicles.
50–70% — Nearly clear. Ideal for windshields and front side windows where law and visibility matter most. Still rejects significant UV and heat with ceramic film.
California law you should know
California requires front side windows to allow more than 70% VLT. Rear side windows and the back window can be any darkness. Windshields can have a non-reflective tint strip across the top 4 inches. We'll always tint within the law unless you specifically request off-road or show-only configurations.
